Early Learning

The Early Childhood Development Program offers literacy-enriched play for children who are 3 years old before December 31st of the upcoming school year. Fort McMurray Public Schools provides Kindergarten and ECDP programs in each of its elementary schools.

Inclusive Programming

Our philosophy is to ensure that all students with special needs have opportunities to be in regular classrooms whenever possible. There are a variety of designated programs for students with severe disabilities as well as individualized program planning available.

Indigenous Education

Within our schools, we work with local Indigenous leaders to engage parents and families to support student success through collaborative partnerships. We strive to develop culturally relevant programs, resources and student supports. Also referred to as First Nations, Métis and Inuit Education (FNMI) Education.

Mental Health Supports

Mental health supports in schools are integrated with services provided through government (Alberta Health, Child and Family Services) and through community agencies. School counselors across the District provide both individual and group interventions that focus on identifying core problem areas and supporting classroom learning. Regional Collaborative Service Delivery - Region 2 (Wood Buffalo Regional Collaborative Service Delivery Framework).

Welcoming, Caring, Respectful and Safe Schools

Embedded in all FMPSD facilities; Safe and Caring Schools includes Character Education programs, Anti-Bullying Programs, Bus Safety, and Crisis Management.

Home Education Centre

FMPSD’s at-home learning programs are designed for families who wish for flexibility in their child’s education.  We offer a wide variety of program choices and FMPSD staff will work with parents to select a program that best fits their child’s needs.
