ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.

Personnel and Employee Relations AP 409: Employee Consulting Activities

Background

The Division may approve the release of employees from their regular roles, duties and responsibilities, who, because of some exceptional knowledge or expertise, are requested to act as a speaker or consultant outside of the Division.

Procedures

  1. Employee consulting activities must be compatible with the philosophy and procedures of the Division.
  2. The Head of the Human Resources Department may approve limited leaves of absence without pay for this purpose of up to a maximum of three (3) days per school year per employee. These activities must be at no cost to the Division and must not interfere with the employee’s regular duties and responsibilities.
  3. Request for leaves for this purpose must be forwarded to the Head of the Human Resources Department at least six (6) weeks prior to the requested release date and must include all relevant details regarding the request. The request must be accompanied by a letter of support from the employee’s immediate supervisor or Principal.
  4. The Division must be informed if the employee is to receive additional compensation or benefits for their services, other than the cost of expenses/substitutes.
