ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.

FMPSD Annual Christmas Card Winners

(Fort McMurray, AB - December 13th, 2023) The Fort McMurray Public School Division's annual Christmas Card design challenge is a highly anticipated event, eagerly anticipated by students from every grade and school. The creativity, enthusiasm, and passion exhibited by the participating students never ceases to amaze, inspire, and delight FMPSD staff.

This year's competition was no exception, with a diverse and impressive array of entries showcasing a wide range of artistic styles and themes. After much deliberation and thoughtful consideration, two winners were ultimately selected: Avalon Murrin, a talented Grade 12 student attending Ecole McTavish High School and Frank Spragins Highschool, and Paige Seguin, a gifted Grade 5 student at Timberlea Public School.

Avalon's winning design is a delightful and playful illustration of a cheerful snowman with a top hat, scarf, and carrot nose. The charming and whimsical style of the drawing perfectly captures the fun and excitement of the holiday season and is sure to bring a smile to the faces of all who receive it.

Paige's winning design is equally impressive, featuring a striking and eye-catching image of a beautifully rendered winter landscape, shimmering snowflakes, evergreens, familiar bonds and warm hot chocolate.

Both Avalon and Paige's designs are a testament to the incredible creativity, talent, and dedication of the Fort McMurray Public School Division students. Their winning entries demonstrate the power of imagination and the joy of artistic expression. They are sure to be cherished by everyone who receives them this holiday season.
