Introduction

Dr. K. A. Clark School opened on April 8, 1968, two years after the passing of Karl Clark (1888-1966). A chemist, experimental scientist, and pioneer of bitumen separation, Dr. Clark’s prototype to refine the bitumen, provided the impetus to add value for the value of the oil sands.

Students, staff, families and extended members of our larger school community have been healing from an intersection of challenges this year. Five years after the Horse River fire caused the displacement and evacuation of 88 000 from their homes, the COVID-19 global pandemic and a 100-year flood forcing yet another evacuation. 379 students were displaced and dedicated, hard working staff pulled together to give back to our community.

Education Plan

Dr. K. A. Clark School offers Daily Five Literacy program, Leveled Literacy Interventions, SKILLS Program, Vocational Individualized Program, Intensive Instructional Intervention (Triple I), Indigenous education through the Seven Grandfather Teachings curriculum, as well as, school-wide celebrations of Black History Month and Take Me Outside Day.

We are excited to announce that Dr. K. A. Clark School is the successful recipient of a $30 000 Community Investment Grant from the RMWB to support the commitment to an outdoor community garden. Hands-on gardening experience is also a great way to help young people understand and appreciate how food is grown. The community gardens will ensure access to long-term patients in Continuing Care at the Northern Lights Regional Health Centre and for future years with residents of Willow Square.

We also received a $12 000 grant from Syncrude and Tree Canada to plant trees as part of their Operation Re-Leaf, providing opportunities to green the school grounds and build resilience.

Motto

#dinofam is doing what's best for kids

Mission

We, at Dr. K.A. Clark Public School, will provide opportunities for all learners in a safe and nurturing environment, where everyone is provided the skills of leadership to achieve personal excellence through life-long learning.

Philosophy

Dr. K. A. Clark School was dedicated to our #dinofam with three major goals.

(1) High academic expectations for all of our students.

(2) Develop a strong sense of community to provide stability for students and staff. Building community through school spirit days, virtual monthly Dino of the Month assemblies, online holiday concerts and talent shows.

(3) Dedicated to maintaining the culture, values and traditions of our established school community. Inherent to this is land acknowledgments, and the forwarding of 94 calls to action in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

Beliefs

We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. A strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to continue to support each student.

Programs & Services

We offer experienced teachers who value inclusive learning environments. Early Childhood Development Program (pre-kindergarten), Full Day Kindergarten and Grades 1 to Grade 6 teachers and educational assistants serve as partners in the community.
