ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.

Rotating Strike Action Schedule for Dec 2

Posted on: General News

Dear Parents and Guardians,

We are reaching out to provide you with what we know regarding the upcoming CUPE rotating strike action scheduled for tomorrow (December 2). CUPE Local 2545 has announced that rotating strikes will resume during this period, affecting various schools within our Division. They will continue to notify the public on a day by day basis the night before. When we have information we are sure of, we will share with you via Messenger and school social media.

Rotating Strike Locations:

Monday (December 2nd):

  • No Striking Locations
  • Picket Location: None

Student Attendance:

  • For students who were previously asked to remain at home due to unavailable regular support, we kindly request that you continue with this arrangement on the days when your child’s school is affected by the strike. This includes some special needs students and those in our Early Childhood Development Program (ECDP).  Your child’s attendance will be noted as a school related absence, so it will not negatively impact their overall attendance.

Our commitment is to keep you informed of any developments and to continue bargaining. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s school.
