ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.

Joint Message Regarding Return of School Operations for Unaffected Areas Starting May 21st

(Fort McMurray, AB, May 16, 2024) As always, the safety of our students, families, and staff remains our top priority. We want to provide you with an important update regarding the status of our schools in Fort McMurray.

Beginning Tuesday, May 21st, 2024, business will return as usual for all Fort McMurray schools not affected by the Wildfire Evacuation Orders. This includes the vast majority of our schools and facilities.

However, please note that the following schools will remain closed until further notice:

  • Father Beauregard School (FMCSD)
  • Beacon Hill Public School (FMPSD)
  • Good Shepherd Elementary School (FMCSD)
  • École Boréale (CSCN)

We understand that this may cause some inconvenience, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we prioritize everyone's safety. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and keep you informed with timely updates.
