ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.

News Release: FMPSD Student Wins Aloha International Grand Championship Trophy

Posted on: General News

(Fort McMurray, AB - October 25th, 2024) In an extraordinary display of skill and dedication, Dave McNeilly Public School Grade 2 student Kreev Shah has brought home the prestigious Aloha Grand Championship Trophy after securing first place in the international competition held in Madrid, Spain. The event, which took place over several days in July, saw young math enthusiasts from around the globe compete in a rigorous series of challenges.

Kreev, a student of Aloha Mental Arithmetic classes at Fort McMurray, scored a perfect 70/70 by answering all 70 questions correctly, a testament to his hard work, passion, and mathematical prowess. His teacher, who recognized his exceptional talent and dedication, selected him to represent their community on the international stage after he excelled in local examinations.

Reflecting on his achievement, Kreev expressed, "I am extremely happy to bring the grand champion trophy [to Fort McMurray]." His joy and pride were evident as he shared his excitement with classmates and teachers alike. Kreev's accomplishment is not just a personal victory but a source of pride for both his school and the broader Fort McMurray community, inspiring other students to strive for excellence.

To other aspiring students, Kreev offers encouraging words, “Aloha is a great program to strengthen math skills, and we are fortunate to have classes here arranged by Ms. Ruchi. It increases kids' mental arithmetic skills by making calculations faster; it brings the mental response quicker in kids' brains. I highly recommend Aloha mental arithmetic classes in Fort McMurray.”

At FMPSD, we take immense pride in celebrating the achievements of our students, and Kreev’s accomplishments stand as a testament to the high standards of excellence we uphold. Watching Kreev flourish and achieve remarkable milestones fills us with joy and reinforces our commitment to nurturing talent and fostering an environment that encourages growth and innovation. Kreev’s dedication, hard work, and success reflect personal triumphs and the collective effort of our lessons, staff, and the supportive community around him. We are honoured to have played a part in Kreev’s journey and are excited to see how he continues to inspire.
