ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.

Media Release: PowerSchool Cybersecurity Update

Posted on: General News

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Today, February 3, 2025, PowerSchool initiated the process of notifying individuals whose information was determined to be involved.

As we previously communicated, PowerSchool – a cloud-based software vendor used by the Fort McMurray Public School Division – recently experienced a cybersecurity incident involving unauthorized access to certain information in the PowerSchool Student Information System (SIS).

PowerSchool has engaged Experian and TransUnion, trusted credit reporting agencies, to provide complimentary identity protection and credit monitoring services to staff who had their information exfiltrated from PowerSchool SIS. Although FMPSD PowerSchool records do not contain staff Social Insurance Numbers or birth dates, PowerSchool is still providing this service to staff. In the coming weeks, Experian (on behalf of PowerSchool) will be distributing direct email notifications to involved parties for whom PowerSchool has sufficient contact information.

PowerSchool has worked with Experian to set up a dedicated, toll-free call centre to answer any questions associated with both Experian and TransUnion’s offerings and the incident. All the information regarding activating and accessing these services will be included in the emails Experian sends you. Whether or not you receive an email, you may also visit PowerSchool’s website to learn how to activate these offerings.

Protecting our students and teachers remains our top priority. Thank you again for all of your support and understanding during this time.
