ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.

Important Update Regarding PowerSchool

Posted on: General News

Dear Parents and Guardians,

On January 7th, 2025, PowerSchool notified affected board authorities that a security incident had occurred on their system. CrowdStrike, a third-party expert in these types of incidents, quickly contained the incident in December. Law enforcement is also involved and investigating.

This incident involved access to student and parent demographic data. PowerSchool is working with us to determine what was accessed in our system. PowerSchool has assured us that all unauthorized access has been shut down and that they have implemented increased security measures.

As usual, be alert and aware of potential phone and email scams and never give additional personal information over the phone or via email.

PowerSchool will provide additional communications in the coming days, including frequently asked questions and specifics about the compromised data. We will update everyone as we receive more information.
