ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.

Important Update Regarding Potential Labour Disruption Within FMPSD Schools

Posted on: General News

Good evening,

(Fort McMurray, September 16th, 2024) We wish to share an urgent and important update in regard to the potential labour disruption within our schools.

We have just been served notice that the Ministry of Jobs, Economy, and Trade has established a Disputes Inquiry Board (DIB). This process will allow the parties to continue negotiations while also providing the labour expertise of a neutral third-party arbitrator.

This means there will be no strike tomorrow; therefore, we are planning to operate all schools and programs as per normal tomorrow.

Our support staff are an integral part of Fort McMurray Public Schools, and their contributions are critical to the success of our students, families and staff. We recognize the immeasurable value they add to our school communities.

We want to thank our families for your grace, compassion and support as we navigate these times.

Thank you,

Annalee Nutter
