ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.

FMPSD Seeks Community-wide Participation to Plan its 2024-25 Budget

Posted on: General News

(Fort McMurray, AB - January 25, 2024) The Fort McMurray Public School Division (FMPSD) is launching its annual community-wide survey for stakeholders to share their opinions and input on the 2024-2025 budget plan. The survey will be facilitated through ThoughtExchange, an online engagement tool used to crowdsource thoughts and opinions by giving people the ability to view, consider and rate thoughts from others.

Input will be collected from Fort McMurray Public School Division’s students, staff, parents, guardians and community partners to identify priority areas for consideration as we prepare to develop a 2024-2025 school year budget.

Links for the survey have been sent out to students, staff, parents, guardians and community members; the survey will be open from January 25th until midnight on February 5, 2024.

“Planning for the next school year’s budget is an important task, and like last year, we are once again seeking community feedback to help us with the process. As always, our main focus is ensuring the success of every student at FMPSD,” said Annalee Nutter, Superintendent of FMPSD.

“We invite everyone to participate in our online engagement process. This is our way of hearing your priorities as we work hard on funding projections for the next academic year. New this year, we want to know where to spend money if the budget provides additional dollars.” Superintendent Nutter continued.

The Division ensures all ThoughtExchange submissions will remain confidential, and the feedback provided by each individual will only be collected and shared to compile a consolidated report.
