ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.

(Fort McMurray, AB - January 23rd, 2024) Dear Parents and Guardians,

We know these are challenging times for our schools and in our community. Fort McMurray Public School Division remains dedicated to reaching a negotiated settlement with CUPE Local 2545. We acknowledge this job action is creating uncertainty for families and our staff, and we recognize this is a difficult time to navigate.

In our continued effort to find a resolution, we have agreed to return to the bargaining table with CUPE Local 2545. Our meeting is scheduled for next week (Thursday, January 30).

We remain committed to finding a fair resolution as we aim to restore full operations in our schools as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience and understanding. We will continue to share updates with staff and all families when information is confirmed and can be shared.
