FMPSD Announces New Superintendent

(Fort McMurray, AB, March 16, 2022) Fort McMurray Public School Division (FMPSD) congratulates Annalee Nutter on being appointed the new Superintendent of Schools! Ms. Nutter, who has been with the Division for almost 20 years was named Acting Superintendent last October, and began in the new position this January. 

Ms. Nutter attended Minot State University in North Dakota where she completed her Bachelors in Education with a double major in Speech Pathology and K-8 Teaching. She completed her Masters in Education through the University of Prince Edward Island.

She joined FMPSD in 2002 to teach a combined class of grades one and two at Greely Road School. She has been a Learning Assistance Coordinator, a Vice Principal, and helped open Walter and Gladys Hill Public School (WGH) as Principal in 2014, a position she held for five years. Prior to starting as Acting Superintendent, she was the Associate Superintendent, Education & Administration for three years.

The Board is confident that the Division will continue to flourish and grow under her bright smiles, and that led and nurtured by her valued and respected leadership, the FMPSD remains solidly grounded in Doing What's Best for Kids. Ms. Nutter said, “moving forward as FMPSD Superintendent is an honour.”

“My relationships with FMPSD staff over the last two decades, as well as my current relationships with school leaders brings comfort knowing I will be leading a very talented and student-focused group of staff. I will continue to make Assurance for the system a priority, making sure we are doing what's best for kids, listening to our stakeholders when it comes to different issues, addressing local context and building community within our schools and the entire region of Wood Buffalo. I look forward to continuing to build on our successes and setting high standards for our system so that all students can be successful.” 

Indeed, her career has been a litany of forging success. During her tenure at WGH Ms. Nutter created multiple partnerships for FMPSD such as start a Cricket Club, bring PEAK Cricket to FMPSD, launch a Confucius Classroom, work with the Chinese Canadian Society, and intergenerational programs with Rotary House seniors, programming collaborations with the Multicultural Association and Girls Inc., to name a few. Additionally, under her leadership, the school offered five language programs, which was a first for FMPSD. 

As Assistant Superintendent, Ms. Nutter helped develop partnerships with local Indigenous organizations, and established the Division’s first ever land-based learning camp, which has been exceptionally popular with students, staff and parents. Last June FMPSD launched the first Elders’ Council – another initiative she assisted in overseeing.
