(Fort McMurray, AB - April 30th, 2025) Due to a steady increase in annual enrollment and a growing demand for educational spaces, École McTavish High School is making changes to its registration policies for the 2025–2026 school year to address capacity challenges. While we are actively working on acquiring additional modular classrooms to accommodate more students, these adjustments are necessary to ensure we continue to provide a safe, supportive, and high-quality learning environment.
Over the past several years, École McTavish High School has experienced significant growth in enrollment, pushing us to the limits of our current facilities. To address this, we are in the process of exploring ways to bring in additional modular classrooms. Updates on this process will be shared as they become available.
While we work toward securing these additional resources, we must implement temporary changes to manage enrollment numbers for the upcoming school year.
Beginning with the 2025–2026 school year, École McTavish High School will only accept new registrations for the following groups of students:
- Students entering Grade 7 who reside within the École McTavish designated catchment area;
- Students who are new to Fort McMurray and reside within the designated catchment area;
- Siblings of current École McTavish students;
- Students accepted into the PEAK Program; and
- Students registering for the French Immersion program.
Registrations from students living outside the catchment area, or transfer requests from other schools, will not be accepted unless they meet the exceptions outlined above. Families who wish to be placed on a waitlist for future registration are encouraged to contact École McTavish directly.
We recognize that these changes may create challenges for some families, and we deeply appreciate your understanding as we work through this period of transition. Our priority remains ensuring École McTavish High School continues to serve students effectively and equitably while maintaining the quality educational experience for which we are known.
Thank you for your continued support and cooperation as we adapt to meet the needs of our growing community. Please stay tuned for further updates on the progress of potential modular classroom additions.
If you have any questions regarding catchment areas or registration, please contact your child’s school.
Thank you for your continued support.
