(Fort McMurray, AB - May 26th, 2024) As we approach the end of the current school year, it's important to reflect on the contributions of a dedicated staff member who played an integral role in making our journey possible. On March 24, 2024, the Fort McMurray Public School Division (FMPSD) family lost a beloved member, Linda Acheson. Her passing marks the end of an era for us, as Linda was not just an employee but a cornerstone of our community. She devoted an impressive 33 years of her life to FMPSD, starting her noteworthy journey with us in March 1991.

Linda's tenure at FMPSD was marked by unwavering dedication and a genuine commitment to the well-being of the staff and community. Starting in the Human Resources department, Linda quickly became known for her people-focused approach. As an HR Coordinator, she was always ready to assist employees with their inquiries, going above and beyond to ensure everyone felt supported and valued.

Linda was crucial in onboarding new staff members and helping them navigate their new roles within the Division. Her supportive nature and willingness to help ease the transition for countless employees have made many fondly remember her kindness and expertise. She was not just a colleague but a friend and mentor to many, leaving a lasting impression on their lives.

Beyond her professional responsibilities, Linda was a beacon of community spirit within FMPSD. She led the “Family-in-need” fundraiser, demonstrating her compassion and dedication to helping others. Through various initiatives, such as the Christmas auction and draws, Linda helped raise funds to buy gifts for families in need during the holiday season. Her office, filled with gifts awaiting delivery, was a testament to her tireless efforts and the difference she made in the lives of many families.

Linda's work with the Sponsored Family program, held every December, was particularly impactful. Her leadership and organizational skills ensured the success of these fundraisers year after year, bringing joy and relief to numerous families during the festive season.

Linda's contributions to FMPSD went beyond her formal role. She embodied kindness, compassion, and dedication, qualities that left a lasting impression on everyone she worked with. Her willingness to go the extra mile for her colleagues and the community has left a mark on our hearts.

As we grieve the loss of Linda, we also celebrate her life and the incredible legacy she leaves behind. Linda Acheson's 33 years with FMPSD were filled with moments of generosity, hard work, and heartfelt connections. She will be dearly missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire us as we carry forward her legacy of dedication and compassion.
