FMPSD Cements Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion by Endorsing the Wood Buffalo Workplace Inclusion Charter

Posted on: General News News Release

(Fort McMurray, AB - January 10th, 2024) Fort McMurray Public School Division (FMPSD) has cemented its commitment to championing diversity and fostering inclusivity in the workplace by fully endorsing the Wood Buffalo Workplace Inclusion Charter. The Charter, a comprehensive framework developed through collaboration with service providers and employers, lays out specific actions organizations can take to ensure greater integration and inclusion in Fort McMurray. FMPSD is proud to be one of the first organizations to support this vital initiative.

At FMPSD, we recognize that creating a truly inclusive environment is essential for our staff and students' success. We believe that diversity is a tremendous asset and that the range of skills, ideas, and perspectives our staff members bring to the table drives our success. By endorsing the Wood Buffalo Workplace Inclusion Charter and implementing the 25 commitments outlined in the framework, we further solidify our commitment to fostering an environment that encourages diversity and embraces inclusivity.

Our decision to endorse the Charter aligns perfectly with our Education Plan Priorities. By attracting and retaining staff (Priority #4), creating a safe and caring environment for staff and students (Priority #2), maintaining high levels of teaching and support (Priority #4), and reinforcing academic success (Priority #1), FMPSD is actively working towards creating a diverse, inclusive and thriving school system.

FMPSD knows that building a more inclusive workplace is an ongoing process, and we recognize that this initiative represents a significant step forward in our efforts to create a genuinely welcoming and equitable environment for staff, students and stakeholders.

Superintendent Annalee Nutter champions the Charter as a crucial stride towards inclusivity in FMPSD.

“We acknowledge the work that the We Belong committee started last year in developing a strategic plan for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. The development of the Wood Buffalo Workplace Inclusion Charter further solidifies our strategic plan as it aligns with the work we are already doing, as well as the recommendations we have organized into our implementation plan. We look forward to achieving our commitment goals and celebrating the ways in which we foster an environment that encourages diversity and embraces inclusivity.”
