ATA Strike Commencing on Monday; School Closures Starting Oct 6th

As a result of the Alberta Teachers Association (ATA) rejecting a proposed deal from the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association (TEBA), all FMPSD schools will be closed to students starting Monday, October 6, 2025, unless a new agreement is reached or strike action is otherwise averted. Additionally, all yellow school bus routes will be suspended for the duration of the strike.

In light of the ongoing strike, all extracurricular activities, including sports, clubs, and after-school programs, will be temporarily suspended.

As there is no definitive end date for the strike, FMPSD is unable to provide a timeline for when normal operations will resume. We will continue to provide timely updates as we receive them from the Ministry of Education and Child Care.

FMPSD Assurance Amid Student Choice Policy Announcement

Posted on: News Release

Amid the changing dynamics within our society and recent announcements, it's crucial to reaffirm the foundational principles that guide our schools' operations and the environment we strive to maintain for our students.

First and foremost, our commitment to fostering a welcoming, caring, respectful, and safe learning environment remains unwavering. This commitment is deeply rooted in our Division's policies, namely Policy 19 concerning Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Policy 20 regarding Student Conduct, which are both aligned with the Alberta Human Rights Act and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

We understand there may be concerns or questions following the Premiere's recent announcement. However, we want to make it clear that our number one priority continues to be the safety and well-being of our students. Nothing has changed in our operations or policies as a result of this announcement. We will continue to follow current legislation and Division Policy. It's important to note that any proposed changes to legislation require a formal process to become law, a process that may extend into the late fall of this year.

Until any potential legislative changes occur, please rest assured that our schools will adhere to the existing policies that champion a diverse, inclusive, and safe educational environment for all students. These policies are not just guidelines but a reflection of our collective values as a school community, values that cherish and uphold the dignity of every individual.

Thank you for your ongoing support and trust in us as we continue to provide a quality education for your children, ensuring their safety and growth in an environment that respects and celebrates diversity.
