Fort McMurray Public School Division Provides Operational Update re École Dickinsfield School

(FORT MCMURRAY, AB - December 16, 2020) - Fort McMurray Public School Division continues to work closely with Alberta Health Services to support and manage the safety of all schools.

In the past week we have been informed of multiple cases of COVID-19 relating to École Dickinsfield School. Today we were made aware of 5 additional cases, which is now 10 active cases in relation to École Dickinsfield School since December 7th, 2020.

In consultation with Alberta Education, the Office of the Chief Medical Officer, and our Board of Trustees; Fort McMurray Public School Division has determined the following:

  • École Dickinsfield School will remain open for Thursday and Friday this week.
  • Families are encouraged to keep students home if possible.
    • Please email dfabsences@fmpsd.ab.ca if parents decide to keep child(ren) at home as we want to ensure the safety of all students
  • Families will have the option of having their child(ren) attend in person classes on Thursday, December 17th, but are encouraged to keep students home.
  • Where possible, and where already occurring, classes will shift to at home learning. Teachers will contact families with further clarification and information.
  • If there are essential belongings that students need to collect at school, please contact the front office to make arrangements. If not required, please consider leaving items at school.
  • Staff will be at school Thursday, December 17th for any families that need to send children to school because they have no childcare available on such short notice.
  • As a reminder, if you are showing any signs or symptoms of COVID-19, please do not come to the school, and make alternate arrangements if there are items to be picked up.

The safety and wellbeing of all students and staff is always our first priority. We understand this information can be distressing to families and support is available by contacting École Dickinsfield School and/or Division Office. Please be assured we will continue to work closely with Alberta Health Services to ensure we follow their ongoing recommendations.
